Upgrade Guide
The upgrade steps depend on the version you're upgrading from.
From Version 5.0.0 or Newer
-
Backup the existing
workspacefolder from your current installation.License deletionIf you're upgrading from Voice Inspector 5 to 6 with a production license, Phonexia requires the original license to be deleted from the Voice Inspector 5 installation folder before using the new one. Only the
license.datfile needs to be deleted — the rest of the old installation, including theworkspacefolder, can remain in place and does not need to be removed.
-
Install the latest version of Voice Inspector into a new directory by following the installation manual.
-
Choose how you want to continue working, depending on your needs:
-
Starting fresh with new cases and new recordings — no further action is needed. The new installation is ready to use as-is.
-
Migrating everything (cases, Speakers, and Population sets) — copy the entire
workspacefolder from your previous installation into the newly installed directory of the latest version, replacing theworkspacefolder created during installation. This carries over all your existing cases together with their Speakers and Population sets, and is the fastest way to continue working exactly where you left off. -
Reusing only some existing Speakers or Population sets — use this option if you don't need your old cases, but want to bring over specific Speakers or Population sets without copying the whole workspace.
- In your previous installation, open Tools → Database of speakers (or Tools → Population database for Population sets), select the speakers/sets you need, and use the Export function. Choose All data to also export the existing voiceprints (this avoids re-extracting them, which is the most time-consuming part of processing) and select a destination directory.
- In your new installation, open the same dialog and use the Import function, pointing it to the exported directory. For Population sets, importing a directory containing one subdirectory per speaker recreates the set under the same name, with speakers added to the Database of speakers.
-
Voice Inspector 6 was designed to make the upgrade as smooth as possible, but some steps and dialogs have changed slightly compared to Voice Inspector 5. For details, see the user manual included in the Voice Inspector package.
From Versions Older than 5.0.0
Due to significant technological changes, voiceprints from versions older than 5.0.0 are not compatible with newer VIN versions. Follow these steps:
- Backup the existing
workspacefolder from your current installation. - Install the latest release of Voice Inspector into a new directory by following the installation manual.
- Recreate your Population Sets in the new Voice Inspector installation by using audio recordings of the speakers included in your previous population sets.
- Create all cases from scratch, using recordings of suspected speakers and questioned recordings.
